Set along the eastern slopes of Seneca Lake, Ravines Wine Cellars is widely regarded as one of the pioneering wineries that helped elevate the Finger Lakes into a world-class wine region. Founded in 2001 by Morten and Lisa Hallgren, the winery reflects a distinctly European influence—Morten, a French-trained oenologist, brought Old World techniques to the region while helping define its modern identity. Early on, Ravines gained attention for championing a bone-dry, mineral-driven Riesling style that would go on to become a signature of the Finger Lakes. Operating across more than 130 acres of estate vineyards on limestone and shale soils, the winery emphasizes terroir-driven wines with minimal intervention and a focus on balance, structure, and aging potential.

Over the past two decades, Ravines has earned a reputation as one of the most critically acclaimed producers in New York State. The winery has been named to Wine & Spirits “Top 100 Wineries in the World” (multiple years), while its Dry Rieslings have repeatedly landed on Wine Spectator’s “Top 100 Wines” list. It has also been recognized by The New York Times for producing some of the best Rieslings in the country and featured among the publication’s top wine experiences. Early in its history, Ravines took home “Best Dry Riesling” at the 2003 World Riesling Cup, setting the tone for decades of accolades to follow. With a refined tasting experience, an on-site culinary program, and a legacy of critical success, Ravines continues to serve as both a benchmark winery and a cultural cornerstone of Geneva’s thriving wine scene.
