Open Jazz Jams with Gonzo

One of the highlights of the Geneva Jazz Festtival are the Open Jazz Jams we host every year. These are unique musical moments with spontaneous ensembles taking shape. A blend of festival artists, visiting musicians, and hobbyists exploring jazz and improvisation.

FLIMA provides a blank canvas in the form of a backline, including house drums, bass, keys, guitar, and vocal mic. Lake Drum Brewing is the venue sponsor for the GJF26 Jazz Jams hosted by festival co-founder and guitarist Michael Gonzalez (aka Gonzo).

Thank you for visiting the Finger Lakes Independent Music Association online at flima.org. FLIMA is a grassroots organization founded in Geneva, New York in 2010. Our work encompasses three main goals: To serve musicians by creating opportunities to network, collaborate, and mentor one another. To advocate for fair pay, creative freedom, and professional development of musicians in our region. And to engage the community through concerts, workshops, and community music events. We aim to raise visibility and create opportunity for musicians who live, work, and create in the Finger Lakes region (central and western New York).

Michael is a musician steeped in roots, jazz, soul, and world music. His sultry voice and expressive guitar
work draw in the audience with dynamic, engaging sounds.

A trained composer with 25 years experience performing, composing, and teaching throughout the US. He is the co-founder of the Geneva Jazz Festival. And founder the Finger Lakes Independent Music
Alliance (FLIMA).

Known for his versatility, Michael performs for hundreds of diverse public and private events. Whether a solo act, or with a full band—background music, or the center of the party—Michael adapts to the needs of the situation.
